Dressing the Portraits

Using techniques explored during the M.A. Tateishi project (layered transparencies), the children created pieces of fabric to dress their figures. For those of you just joining us, the bodies are traced on tag board and feature layers beginning with internal organs working outward to hand-mixed personalized skin colors.

The fabric was made from sections of recycled tissue paper and bits of tracing paper. The children used watercolors and oil pastels. They applied the sections of paper to their portrait bodies using a glue wash.
